| Oajaca 2004. This trip was three years in the making. Hotel reservations for Dia de Los Muertos (October 30-November 2) had to be made months in advance. Something always came up that forced me to cancel my reservations. This time everything went as planned. I stayed at the Hotel Francia located one block west of the Zocalo. The rates and service were excellent. I spent the first day wandering the historic district. The parade at right was on Avenida Hidalgo near the Palacio de Gobierno. There was a protest on the grounds of the Plaza de Armas in fronet of the Palacio de Gobierno. The signs and posters detailed opposition to Ameriucan globilization and the exploitation of the forests long the home on Amerindians. The year before a protest against the government turned violent and many Indians were killed and jailed. One always finds the Communist Party symbol in struggles for social justice. Below right-La Catedral de Oajaca. |
