2000. The day after Christmas I took my grandchildren Jamael and Riley to Bahia de Gonzaga. On the way we stopped at Pete's camp at low tide, and later at Ejido Matomi to visit our friends David and Olga who had a fabulous meal waiting for us. Below right: Gonzaga in the distance. |

We went to visit papa Fernandez, one of the two most famous and beloved people in Baja. When he came out of his little house he said "yo soy papa Fernandez, tengo ciento y siete (107) anos de edad. Mire he perdido muchos dedos." Sadly, a few weeks after we met him, I heard he'd died. My grandkids really enjoyed meeting this legendary Baja Californiano, and were saddened by his death. |

We tried to get to Punta Final by going along the beach. The sand was deep and soft and I thought sure we were going to get stuck. We made a slow and wide u-turn and got back to the road. I was so happy I jumped out of the Jeep and danced a jig. |
